Affidavit: An affidavit is a written statement of facts voluntarily made under oath or affirmation before an authorized officer such as Notary Public or a First Class Judicial Magistrate. In Bangladesh, affidavits are widely used in personal, commercial, and judicial matters to formally declare any facts, confirm identity, correct records, or support court proceedings.

In Bangladesh there are 4 major laws govern affidavits. They are as follows: 

  • Oaths Act 1873
  • Notaries Ordinance, 1961
  • Evidence Act, 1872 
  • General Clauses Act, 1897

Types of Affidavits: In Bangladesh there are mainly two types of affidavits. Such as: 

  1. Judicial Affidavit: Which are used in Court Proceedings. 
  2. Non Judicial Affidavits: Which are used for other purposes. 

Common Uses of Affidavits: 

  • Legal Declaration (Date of Birth Affidavit, Affidavit of Legal Capacity, Same Person Declaration)
  • Correction of Information (Name Correction Affidavit)
  • Marital Status Declaration (Affidavit of Unmarried Certificate, Single Status Affidavit, Divorce Affidavit) 
  • Financial & Property Matters Declaration (Affidavit of Land Ownership, Rental/Lease Affidavit, Missing Document Affidavit, Tax Affidavit, Power of Attorney) 
  • NO Objection Declaration (No Objection to Travel)
  • Travel & Visa Affidavits (Sponsorship Affidavit, Employment Affidavit, Financial Support Affidavit, Travel Consent Affidavit, Invitation Affidavit)
